Default Exhaust leak...

I put a "new" decatted header and slip ons on my new 15 Ultra and have a small exhaust leak that I can feel with my hand at the right side muffler connection. I know your supposed to use new clamps, but figured I could get away with it since the bike is new...I've tightened the clamp as far as I can get it and it still has a small leak. Think new clamps will solve my problem? Thanks guys...

Did you loosen the clamp and readjust?

I would try that first. I always make sure the seam of the clamp doesn't line up with the slots on the muffler... and have the clamp hang past the muffler end (forward) by 1/8" or so.

I would not use Red RTV sealant, when it most likely says on the package to definitely not use it as a head gasket (I know this is an exhaust gasket and not a head gasket), but is fine as an intake gasket, I am sure it will work but I would not use it.

I would use something like Permatex Ultra Copper #81878, or anything like this that had copper properties in it, if I was using any sealant, but most likely, the problem can be remedied by reinstalling the connections, and properly torqueing the bolts in the correct sequence, this usually fixes it, if not the 81878 should.

I followed the service manuals procedure for tightening it back up. I will try and readjust the clamp when I get home and see if that does it. If not, I guess I'll get some permatex...thanks guys

One other thing to look at is that the end of the slots are slid past the end of the head pipe.

I would go get exhaust gaskets and start over. I have always been told that that is the only way to insure mating and the gasket will form better because it is crushed when you tighten it down.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Home remedies can be great, But the manual will set you up for success every time. That manual is full of stuff you would have never thought of. Me, I like success and I am lazy too,so Im not doing it twice.

I just used Wurth Exhaust Assembly Paste on mine and had to air wrench the joints down- she's tight now, I'll likley need heat to dissemble but it was the only way I could get it all sealed up tight.

How will new gaskets fix a simple leak at the muffler?

That's like repainting it instead of washing it.....

Just sayin'
