Default Front Brake Brake Fluid Reservoir

Hello--

I have seen several threads about this, but none specific to the FLHXS.

2014 FLHXS leaking brake fluid from the reservoir (just enough that i have to wipe with a rag every once in awhile)...

Questions are:

1) anyone know if Harley makes an upgraded cover plate and gasket to prevent this from happening again (i have read threads that talk about not over tightening etc...but also read about replacement kits)

2) If I take the cover off, I was told I can replace the gasket without bleeding the brakes (since there anti-lock, obviously would create issues)...

3) any other tips or suggestions?

Thanks!

Hard to determine your problem to be the cover and or the gasket.I would buy a new cover and gasket, insure the correct level of fluid is in the reservoir, not over filled, and just snug the cover screws down so they don't distort the gasket.Make sure top of reservoir and gasket is dry when installing.

More than likely your cover was over tightened. No big deal. Set the master cylinder level, remove the cover, clean the cover and the gasket with 50/50 of distilled water and propylene alcohol, completely air dry (compressed air is fine). Replace and tighten to spec or just use two fingers and a thumb on your screw driver. Over tightening the covers is a common problem and usually ends up with a leaking cover. The torque for those two tops screws is only 12-15 inch pounds.

My brake reservoir cover and gasket were just replaced under warranty due to seepage causing paint damage to the cover. At the same time they also flushed the fluid because the moisture content was out of spec. All covered under warranty.
The same seepage was noted on the clutch cover. The entire clutch master cylinder was replaced and fluid purged.
Also warranty.
BTW...The bike was in for service for a problem with infotainment system. Turns out the problem was "self inflicted". Now I know about "enable" universal radio settings.
Some times you get a service writer and tech that treat your bike like it was theirs.

Same thing here, i went in the local HD dealer because i lost a Rad grill and got new brake and clutch master cylinders complete and a grill. All warranted!

Nothing aftermarket that I know of. It's a shitty system that Harley should have by now corrected. Mine sometimes weep as well.

following this thread as my brake reservoir just started leaking after I replaced the handlebars. Apparently it didn't like hanging upside down for 6 hours. I just ran to the dealer and bought a new gasket and made sure not to over tighten. wiped everything dry before installing. after 15 min ride same level of seepage as before, coming from the right side screw area. I'm not sure what to do now, maybe buy new cover?

Had the exact same issue with my clutch reservoir. It was overfilled by the dealer and the angle of my Road 6 Customs handlebars didn't help the situation. Had my indy shop take the clutch reservoir off the bike, fill it properly and bleed it. No more seepage.
