front brake reservoir is leaking / seeping very slightly. Is it as simple as replacing the gasket? Noticed it after swapping out my rubber handlebar bushings for polys.
I went to the dealer to get a new gasket and they said it only come is complete "brake reservoir cover assembly". didn't know if it was BS or not.
My OEM cover was attached to the gasket, so I bought the new cover.
Yes it is an easy fix. The cover and gasket are sold as a set . The only thing to be careful about is to not spill any brake fluid on any painted surface and do not over tighten the screws that hold the cover on. It should only take a couple of minutes to do the job...
I found the part number 46423-05B, it comes with "cover, gasket, decal and mounting screws" all for $29. Almost looks like my cover is pitted around the gasket, oh well--relatively cheap fix for a Harley, i'll just replace it. According to the downloaded instruction sheet, torque is 12-15 inch -pounds, I don't have a torque wrench that sensitive, i'll have to be careful with that, i have tendency to over tighten.
Mine just started leaking too. Seems to be a HD defect as my screws were never overtightened. Asked for gasket which they said $25, then said it was superseded by a cover/gasket together for $41 instead. Maybe the new one won't leak and screw up the paint on the cover if they have improved the design? I don't have a torque wrench that small so I plan to tighten til snug without causing the gasket to squeeze out the sides.
Mine leaked and the dealer told me there was a service bulletin for that. I got a brand-spankin' new chrome cover for free which won't corrode like the black one.
Mine leaks as well. I have Arlen Ness mirrors, which have a pretty thick stem and sit close to the reservoir. The brake fluid took the black paint right off.
I changed my handlebars myself and I'm curious as to whether Harley would warranty a new gasket or try to tell me it's my fault somehow. It's a 2012...
