Yes, you should very thoroughly clean any and every surface that the brake fluid has contacted. Stuff can wreck a paint job, eat insulation off of wires, and eat rubber mounts.
Could be caused by over tightening the cover. You just want the cover gasket to make contact. You don't want to squish the gasket or she'll leak for sure.
Check your diaphram, it may have a pinhole. If its leaking around the seal you can clean and replace, If its leaking out the little breather hole in the cap, the diaphram is damaged and must be replaced. Note: if you're in the middle of nowhere, you can make a temporary diaphram out of a condom! Works great, worked so good I'm still riding on mine after 6 mons. Leave the old one on and ut the condom over it, pull it tight with the tip in the middle, the outer gasket will seal the edge and hold the condom in place.
It must be a warranty prob.Year ago mine starting leaking after i had the top switch cover ducttaped to it while changing grips shortley afterwards started leaking thought I had messed it up bought a new take off cover with gasket for 15 bucks.Roll clock ahead 15k miles notice it starting to seep at gasket again .WTH could be the deal with em I wonder?
