Lexan actually breathes, as it changes temperatures it releases gasses. Standard window film would blister and bubble. They do make special tint for it that is porous. Personally I would just buy a replacement windshield, not worth the hassle. Most dealerships have "demo" screens you can try before you buy.
Long Ride Shields are down to something like $30 during the off-season. I have 3 of their windshields and love them. Others make great ones too, my experiences have all been with LRS.
