Hogworkz vs HD TP Locks

Hogworkz vs HD TP Locks
So while I still feel that the Hogworkz TP was a bargain despite the latch lock failing after a short 4 months? I see it as a “Bad/Good” that it forced me to consider replacing it with a comparatively expensive HD lock which is now keyed to the same key as my HD saddlebags.
had to wait 2weeks for the new barrel lock and was anxious to see if it was in fact a higher quality lock or the same Chinese junk that could be purchased for 1/4 of what I paid but happily such was not the case and the HD lock was more robust and of higher quality everywhere I looked.
here we can see that not only is the finish better but the “Throw” of the HD lock (on the right) is twice that of the HW lock.
And of course the HD lock had a bigger nut along with a deburred lock stab.
And here we can see that while the HW let clear just used a pin to stake things together HD used a rosebud headed stake to sure things up.
I finally got around to installing it today and it was a direct problem free replacement for this HW tourpack.
I’m calling it money well spent.

I read a lot of reviews because I had to rebuild my bike following a crash and needless to say, I ended up buying OEM saddlebags and a tour pak as well, including the locks, tail lights, and so on, and I have zero regrets about that decision. It didn't even cost me a lot of money.

I had to replace the latch and lock before I even got it out for its first ride.
The latch wouldn’t keep the lid closed and the key was sticking.
They sent me new latches and lock but I didn’t even take them out of box.
A little over $300 later I replaced with Harley set and problem solved.

The lock keyed to the bikes VIN was only $65. (Which didn't seem like a lot compared to all the other stuff you have to purchase along with the tour-pak itself. (I got the whole schmeer.. Rear lights, top luggage rack, passenger backrest, mounting kit and all)
I ordered everything 18 days ago. All the parts have arrived except the lock. Still waiting.
And one positive note for Hogworkz... I got a set of painted mid-frame heat deflectors from them for my Road King. They matched the bike's paint perfectly. I was happy with them.
