Default Tires

Approximately how many miles should I expect to get out of the tires that came on the bike? What brand of tires should I think about when it comes to replacing the stock tires. I tried doing a search before posting this question but didn't get any results. Thanks in advance.

Tires are a personal thing...

Some guys claim 20k front and back.

IMHO, anything north of 10k is a bonus.

It truly depends on you, how heavy your throttle hand is, your riding style, how heavy your throttle hand is, road surface you travel, how heavy your throttle hand is, temperature, how heavy your throttle hand is, how much gear you carry in your saddlebags and tourpak, how heavy your throttle hand is, solo or 2 up, how heavy your throttle hand is....

And maintaining proper inflation pressure.

Again, IMHO, the stock Dunlops they are now using are great tires.

2014 come with new Dunlop Multi Tread tires, I say they are amazing, perfect grip in the rain and much longer lasting. I have 23.000 km (14.000 miles) on my 2014 SERK since March and the rear tire still holding, even has some wear indicators left. I never got that far on a rear tire.

On my 09 Ultra which has the same tires as the 14 Limited, I replaced the front and rear tires at 19,979 miles. They both had tread left but since we were heading to Colorado from Kansas City pulling a trailer I decided to change tires. 90% of the miles were 2 up, with 6k miles pulling a trailer.

The new Dunlops aren't bad. They are a huge improvement over the old 402's. However, when I replace I will go with either Michelin Commander II's or Avon Cobras. I've run both. They are long lasting, handle great, and quiet. The Michelin's are a good bit cheaper than the Avons.

Just put a set of Metzler 888s on my limited. These new radials absolutely improved the handling of the bike. Most noticeable is confidence in your turns and the smoothness at Highway speeds. Tread life is TBD.

Changed my stock rear tire at 15K still had a couple thousand miles left in it but I was on a trip and didn't want to stop twice (oil change). I just changed my front at 21500 miles and it had some tread left as well but was starting to get choppy.

Very happy with that kind of mileage so I will keep using them.

I have the Perelli Night Dragons on the Limited and Avon Cobra on the SG. Gotten plenty of miles out of both. first time using the Perelli tires just came back National Biker Roundup in Oklahoma and Strugis. 4519 miles on them in one setting and hardly any wear. Been impressed thus far and they already had over 5000 miles on them prior to my trip.
