I have had many long rides and some have been rained on, but I have never used the intercom system during these rides. We have another ride this weekend and are planning to use the stock intercom plug and headsets. The chance of rain is very high, do I need to do anything special with these to protect the wiring or system?

 

I have used mine in many of rain storms (summer in florida) no problems and no special care needed

 

I have mine sort of velcroed into my half helmet, speakers fairly exposed. Survived torrential rain last week on the Tail of the Dragon. The mic muff holds a lot of water, good for sipping as you ride (no need to reach for a water bottle!)

Rode through huge storms with no problems, short or long term to the intercom.

Actually, our Shoei helmets do not have removable liners and were getting pretty ripe...(I need to send a bitch letter to Shoei), so I went for it, actually filling the lid 1/4 way full with water and a bit of detergent, repeatedly rinsing getting the entire set rather wet...and guess what...No problems, the entire set works great and is/was not effected by moisture.


The bike and Harley stuff in general is not bothered by water, It's suppose to get wet.

Worrying about that stuff is kind'a like having a boat and not taking it to the lake.LOL

 

Same as everyone else. No problems in the rain.

 

I put dielectric grease in the plug.

But I put dielectric grease in all of my electrical connections, from the trailer plugs on my truck (open the spring caps, they're FULL of grease), to the fuses on the bike, I do them at the 1k service. I've seen too many electrical "problems" on bikes that is just a corroded connection.

I do not tear the whole bike down when I buy it and grease everything...
But when I work on something, all of the connections I can get to get greased.
