Default Fixing the saddle bag problem

This topic has been discussed here for several times, I know. The only solution that was suggested was, to buy new hardware at LOWES or such places. I have a better and cheaper solution for everybody. Simply wrap Electrical tape a few times around the pin, put a squirt of WD40 on it and twist it until tight. You will instantly feel that the pin has a lot more resistance rotating. It will not rotate on its own anymore. Make sure the pin is all the way in and rotates till the stop. You may have to experiment with how many wraps you need before you find the right thickness. It works for me. Give it a try. Doesn't cost you a dime.

But wont the WD affect the "sticky" on the tape after a while? I use WD to remove the film left after removing stickers.

The best solution I have found is to simply install the fastener correctly, its free too. Let us know how that gooey mess works out for ya.

The rubber bushings must have shrank over the winter, eventually will have to replace them. But for now I added some thin 5/16 stainless washers, it's got that good snap or lock feel again. just my 2 cents

You are supposed to have a fender washer under each fastener STOCK from the factory, if there wasn't that will explain why they weren't working correctly.

Darn, this is correct pic, only added to the most loose ones, didn't want to squeeze the better ones

I have found the best solution is to use the stock fasteners, all the pieces, including the washer and turn the dzus fastener until it's locked

Me as well. Haven't even ran into anyone with issues. Probably 50 Rushmore bikers I've met.

This ! It's kind of funny, until certain forum vendors started pushing their way over priced, imho, so called solution to stolen bags, there never was a problem. Just shy of 70, I've been going to Sturgis, Daytona and, any number of rallies since I bought a used XLCH back in the early '60s. Never had my hard bags or for that matter, throw over soft bags stolen. In fact, never had any of my stuff stolen. I've lost or left behind stuff though. y m m v !
