Default SGS Service Intervals

I do have another question for you guys. When I had my Wide Glide HD said to do a fist 1000 mile service then a service every 5000 miles. when i was buying the bike they said they were giving me a 500 mile service for free then suggested i bring it back at 1000 mile mark and every 2500 miles after that. Seems excessive. The manual says first service 1000 then every 5000 after that. Why other then money would they suggest that? What service pattern do you guys use?

Thank You

If you're keeping dino oil, they want you to change it every 2500 miles. f you switch to synthetic, it's 5,000.

"500 mile service?" No such thing, brother (according to the owners manual)! There's a 1000 mile break-in service, though. Sounds like a good way to get you back in the dealership to shop for accessories! I use the schedule the manufacturer recommends. 1000, 5000, 10000, etc. I don't see a benefit to an extra early service. I'd love to be a fly on the wall and see what the tech does at 500 miles, knowing the bike is coming back in within another 500 miles!

It's free, but I kind of doubt it's necessary. But it's YOUR bike. Do what makes you feel comfortable! I would like to know what they do at 500 miles, though.

Owners manual, or you can check online at the HD website. They have a lot of cool interactive tools.

Good luck and congrats!

Exactly what i thought. I'll wait till 1000 and have them change it then.

Stick to the standard recommended service intervals. Free service at 500 miles! LMAO! They will have your bike checked to find no loose parts falling off and maybe dump the break in oil replace with more dino oil.
