Softail practically now a Dyna
Pros:
Handles tight and fast in the city. Winner FLDE
Motor ***** - FLDE
Engine heat - FLDE
Weight - FLDE
Lights functionality - FLDE
Lean degree - FLDE
Electronics - FLDE
Single cam - FLDE
Forks - FLDE
Rear shock adjust - FLDN
Draw:
Transmission clang - draw
Fuel mileage - draw (but FLDE should have been improved)
Sound - subjective, but M8 is a bit tame. Motor whines like an electric locomotive.
Screamin' Eagle Street Canon's do not fit well, ugly open gaps in connect points. Sound soft.
Cons:
Handle like crap on the open road. Winner FLSTN
Wind buffet past 60mph, bad. FLSTN
No default rear foot shifter - FLSTN
No default passenger foot pegs = FLSTN
Passenger comfort - FLSTN
Sprocket ratio - FLSTN
6th gear is really 5th gear - FLSTN
Looks - FLSTN
Accessories - FLSTN
Lighting aesthetics - FLSTN
Aerodynamics - FLSTN
comfort - FLSTN
4 spark plugs. Really? Why not 8? - FLSTN
Steering wheel requires both hands at high speeds - FLSTN
Seat - no pocket, slide of the back all the time - FLSTN
Basket weave leather missing - FLSTN
Softails are now pretty much an M8 Dyna. My FLSTN could tour like a Road King. No more.

The 18 Heritage I rode, the 6th seemed REALLY tall.
Useless under 70 mph.
The 114 was quick, but runs out of steam as the rpm's climb.
And yes, it was the mechanically noisiest motorcycle engine I've
ever heard. Sounded like a broken dishwasher.
The brakes & susp are better than mine, but other than that . . . .
Nothing spectacular.
Prior to that, I rode a Switchback. I actually liked that better, as far
as the ride etc. If it didn't have that mid-range vibration it would
have been perfect. The windshields on both of em were worthless.
Frickin hurricane from underneath.
The 103 didn't have the instant torque of the M8 114, but pulled
harder all the way thru the gears (And sounded WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY
better) Mechanically, it was quieter than mine.
After riding that, then a new RG & SG, if I was going to drop the big coin on a new scooter,
it would be a touring model. I've yet to ride a newer RoadKing

Trying to find a 15" windshield for The deluxe. I tried HD the shortest is 18 and comes over the top of my head. I want to look over not through. Tried Freedom shield, emailed them for help, they have a 15" but does not come with hardware. I'd have to have the oem shield then buy theirs and replace it.
any thoughts? I really don't want to pay HD prices plus it's too tall. I'm 5'3" so it's tough to find things to fit me.
thanks!

Windshield on deluxe.
bought the 18" HD windshield with designs to cut it down. Have put 200+ miles behind it and I'm ok with it. It's at nose height for me so I do see over.
I do agree with the wind buffeting on freeway though over 60. Wow. But then again I don't have plans to do long freeway rides, we try to take all back roads.
so far 1050 miles on her and I'm loving it. Still need bags, but if I do long trips it's usually with hubby so he carries my stuff 😁
now if I could figure out how to get the tank bib off and put in a custom one, I'd be set!

I did this myself, but it would have been much easier with an extra set of hands.

It’s a piece of cake. Take off the seat and take off the nut that holds the bottom of the bib in place. Then loosen the large nut on the bottom of the console. Then carefully lift up the console enough to slide off the two small washers on the bottom of the bib that keep it from sliding off the two console posts (note: put towels down in case the washers want to slip off and disappear down the battery compartment). Once the washers are off, just slide the bib down off the console posts.

nice ride
I purchased mine this spring and now have approximately 4200 miles on the clock. At 732 miles, a leak developed under the rear of primary case. Shop replaced an inner primary bearing. Been running great since with no issues. I have all the HD touring accessories on it. And I put Vance and Hines Eliminator mufflers on her two weeks ago. Longest two day trip was just shy of 1400 miles, with 846 in one day. Went across Mackinaw bridge last month without issue.
