Default Service

Service intervals, is it on mileage or timescale. Had first service last July, bike now has 1700 miles on it, to keep warranty does it need to go to dealer for a service. Bike a year old next week.

First service is required at 1000 miles. You're late. You can do it yourself and don't have to take it to a dealer, but you may not have the skills or tools to do so properly. If you decide to take this on yourself, you really need to get a HD service manual. Oh, yeah. Read your owner's manual as Iceman24 stated.

There is a list based on mileage, but it also has footnotes. 1 and 4 are for the oil change.

1. Perform annually or at specified intervals, whichever comes first.
2. Should be performed by an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer, unless you have the proper tools, service data and are mechanically
qualified.
3. Perform spoke tension check at the 1000 mi (2,000 km), 5000 mi (8,000 km), 20000 mi (32,000 km) services and every
15000 mi (24,000 km) interval thereafter. Not all vehicles are equipped with spoke wheels. Consult appropriate topic in service manual.
4. Perform maintenance more frequently in severe riding conditions (such as extreme temperatures, dusty environments, mountainous
or rough roads, long storage conditions, short runs, heavy stop/go traffic or poor fuel quality).

5. For torque instructions, see Shop Practices in the service manual.
6. Disassemble, lubricate and inspect every 30000 mi (48,000 km).

I think it's mileage or annual, whichever comes first.
Would it not be a year from the last service?
Best to ask the dealer, though they'll say you'd better bring it in.

this is what the dealer is saying, 1st service was last July 1100 miles, I've now done another 700, probably be 900 before the yearly service is due, what do they think they'll gonna do it, oils n filter don't need changing, everything works, maybe they gonna swap the blinker fluid n charge me god knows how much money.
I'll have a chat with um, once warranty I'll be doing all the work myself anyway.

You may not feel it needs a service, but the warranty would dictate it's done. That said, at those mileages, you're probably unlikely to really need the final year of the warranty?

One other thought, you either need to ride it more, or it would be cheaper to hire a bike when you feel the itch! 😁👍
