Last week I took a 200 mile trip to Albany and back and my speedometer fogged even worse than usual, making the odometer display completely illegible. That was the last straw.
Today I finally got off my butt, removed the speedometer from the ‘19 Heritage and drilled a pattern of six holes in the underside. I did four around the edge and two in the rectangular section in the center. I reinstalled the speedometer and went on a 120 mile ride. Despite it being a hot day, with several spells of parking in the hot sun then riding, the speedometer never fogged. I’m counting this a tentative success at this point.

A couple of cautions: there is a circuit board very close behind the round area of the speedometer that seems to run around the entire perimeter. Be very careful drilling holes in this area. I used a 3/32 drill in a pin vise so I could drill by hand and feel my way. The plastic is soft and drills easily and when you feel the drill break through, STOP!
As with all modifications, there is risk, and I take no responsibility if you damage something (my lawyer says I have to say this).

I would do the same thing if my bike wasn't under warranty. It's going to take time out of my weekend to drive 80 miles round trip to a dealer whose doors I prefer not to walk through, but at least they're having to pay for their f**k-up.

Too right, the more warranty fixes they have to do the more likely they'll be to sort it out in the first place.
