Default '24 Streetglide 4k report

She is still a wet dream. I have fixed some little stuff, and will report. I removed the crankcase vent from the A/C housing and broke a golf tee off with tape to close the inlet hole. The vent hose now goes to atmosphere at the rear of the primary cover. I had a goofy touchscreen, intermittently no touch and black background. I downloaded and flashed the 2 updated from Harley. The 10" windsplitter was causing some chattering from the mating vinyl pieces on top of the adjustable air flow thingy below the screen. I used a screwdriver to wedge the pieces apart and inserted a 3' piece of old inner tube betewwn surfaces. no more rattle. I changed engine oil as 4k, just because of no trust that dealers did it at 1k, since it was comped with the sale. Oil looked good, but 5qts did the trick, when the book calls for 5.2 qts. I bought some highway pegs and attached them to the engine guard. I'm still in beta here until they are comfortable. I ride 300+ mile days here in S Fla, and traded an '18 Heritage 114 for the Street. I cant tell you the positive difference I feel when I come home after a day's ride! Only downside of the tourer is at low speed, and in gravel. Slow and easy is the mantra, that thing will get on top of you just when you think you have it.

Now for a bit of a personal rant. I use airpods and bluetooth for music, and for the life of me dont understand speakers on a motorcycle. at lights i hear harleys blairing loud music as i do autos with boom boxes. no offense, but i just dont get it. the first aftermarket capitalist who sells a speaker removal and storage conversion has my money. there is so much room in there for storage, what a waste!

enuf for now, more when I ride more!

I don't get it either. I like my exhaust to be quiet when cruising and bark nicely when hard on the throttle. With my current exhaust system and Klockwerks windshield I can hear my stock sound system very well. I am 57 years old and done with noise - Most HDs with open pipes sound like broken lawn mowers to me and putting a bunch of amps on top of that just makes it all worse. If I want noise I get all I need at Rockingham Dragway...

Glad the read the 2024 is working out for you. Softail is a magnificent platform but once you spend time on the touring platform you are never going back. My 2014 is quite old by today's standards but it is still a great bike with a surprisingly-good engine (103 HO). Great brakes, great handling, great MPG, etc. Suspension is not that good but that is typical HD.

I’m confused (not unusual!). On page 173 of my 2024 SG owner’s manual it says engine oil capacity is 4.0 quarts. I only know this because when I changed oil at 1K I poured in 5 quarts because that’s what the guy at the shop said. Checked oil level and saw I had grossly overfilled it. Hmmm, better check the manual. There it was in Table 40. It took about 50 pumps with a turkey baster to get things back where they should be. Four quarts with a new filter fills to the top line on the dipstick.

Should be a setting in the radio where the volume goes down automatically sitting at a stop light. My 18 RG has it.
