Daytona Recap - 1st Place Baddest Bagger Sound Off
What an awesome last few days. Where do I begin? The highlight was today when my bike won the 1000w division maxing the decibel meter at 132db. My partner Henry won this class last year....we are back to back Daytona Baddest Bagger Champs! Secondly, my customer service has sucked for the last week. I know I have a ton of emails, PM's and calls to return. My apologies fellas.
The installs on both my bike and Henrys was a nightmare. No kidding we finished at 3am on Wednesday after 2 days of 24hrs at the shop. We didn't even wash the bikes, much less properly tune them. We loaded the trailer and had to sleep on the side of the road driving up here. We got to Daytona at 8:30am and by 10:30 we were headed to Thursday's sound off at Cabage Parch. HUGE and I mean HUUUGE thanks to Tailwind for saving my **** the past few days. Cabage patch was a nightmare for us. Our bikes sounded like crap.... we weren't as competitive as we wanted to be. There were 141 bikes, they gave out 3 first places, a judges choice award and a best song. Henry won Best Song. We'll take it!!! We left the first day with hardware.
The next morning we woke up early and retuned our bikes. I had a bad tweeter connection and Tailwind had a trailer of tools. We left to Baddest Bagger happy with what we had. The event was a meter up to 132 and then a clarity score 1-5. Henry was in the unlimited watts category and maxed the meter, he EASILY had the loudest bike there. One guy had some great bass and the judge awarded him a 5.1 on clarity as the tiebreaker. Somehow my registration form got mixed up and I went last; Blew the meter within 10 seconds of starting my song! I knew we had a shot with my bike. We went up against some of the best in the business and did great today!!
Now, we have a lot of work to do. I see post here all the time that says "I don't want a competition system just something loud". Ok, so the days of putting speakers on a bike and calling it a competition build are over. The best in the business are building custom enclosures and building bags around them. I saw wood saddlebags; tourpacks that were completely sealed --- the lids didn't even have latches because it was build to look like a lid but in reality it was one piece. I heard a bike wit two 12 inch subs that had bass like a car. Insane bass, and incredible knowledge and build skills. We will get there.
I had dinner tonight with Joey Hensely of Backyard Baggers, Rickie Will of Team Money Cycles, Tim Whittney of Hotrods and Handlebars. I can't say enough how cool these guys are and how helpful they were in sharing info and supporting us. If you ever have a chance to do business with these guys - do it. We wanted to go to Daytona and show we belonged with the best, I think we did that. Now time to get better!
Feels great to say we won at Daytona. Thanks fellas!
