Default What HU are you guys running?

Are all you guys that are running aftermarket speaks and amps, also using factory head units? Is there a big advantage to swapping out the OEM? Can you get a AM HU to work with the hand controls?

I am just getting ready to replace mine. I have hesitated but since my CB is acting up...
What you lose is the CB and intercom if you have those, but you also lose the diagnostics that are built into the stock HU. That part is not mentioned much...I chose the Sony MEX70BT, but there are other choices that others can recommend. In addition to the HU, you also have to choose what installation package you want ti use There are several options, again, others are more experienced. I'll be doing the work this weekend. I got this PAC HDK001x install kit, we will see how it goes.

I use the Sony MEX610 from BIKETRONICS........along with their RETRO RADIO kit......allows use of the original hand controls.

Thanks guys. Are any of these better or worse when it comes to setting up the hand controls? Adapters?

I have the Kenwood 998 and the biketronics retro radio. The only thing I had to do after install was turn off the automatic volume control. Just had to push a switch on the handlebars. Everything else worked perfectly.

Nope. All those units Slye mentioned will perform flawlessly with hand controls. Plug and play are Biketronics and Hawg wired. Metra and scosche are a little more labor intensive.
