I don't believe the 880 need a ton of air space to out out bass, BUT, the low low will be less. Personally the cost of the lower with a good pa mid is reasonable bit unless you got da hook up, $1300 with the 880 is just too much for the location. Run a good pa mid and around $900 you have a very efficient and very pronounced stage. All personal preference and end goal.
Slye is correct. I wish I had all my money back for the countless speakers I've tried in that location. Tough location if you're a tall guy like me. Too far away from your ears!! Cudo's to Flyingbroke for purchasing and testing these speakers in that location and I'm sure they sound dam good!! I love JL speakers!! Good midbass and will sound fantastic sitting still. But for me at 6'3. They don't present the sound stage I'm looking for at 80MPH.
It really is one of the best setups I have heard regarding balanced stages. Killer sound for dudes wanting the full range riding tunes.
I would be all over it if my sled would physically take lowers, AND the brown truck could deliver to a gas station or coffee shop. The dragon has banned all deliveries!!!!!!
T.
Send the deliveries to the 10 million "other" properties you own T!! LOL!!!
Or blame it on Haze like I do!! "Honey Haze just sent me a care package to test" I'm gonna send it back next week!! Yeah Right!
It's all good because she likes Alex!

Voodoo just sent us a care package with products to check out these lowers are one of them. I’ll have them Wed and report back. All of their fiberglass work is great I’d imagine they are well made. Not sure how well the 8.8’s will perform in an enclosure so much smaller than what they’re intended for but maybe they’re great??? I’ll let you know this week.
Bert these could be an option for you!
Already have the color matched Louwers and speaker boxes ordered. Not likely they would take them back in return. I would be interested in seeing how they perform in that location as you pointed out and bang for the buck as Slye pointed out. Keep us posted.

PRV, MMATS or Beymas in that location for me.
Agreed. Best I got was good fill ln that location at speed with pro audio speakers. Looking forward to test results on the JL’s.
Just a heads up you have to pull fuel tank and air cleaner to install these. I did it like this.
Start bye painting JL grills. Note there could be warranty issues if you do this.
Remove old lowers and any tape you may have used to have them fit tight clean all the bugs off could not get to before. voodoo lowers fit like a glove.
Start with the r/h side try to find spot on crash bar that will look straight and also allow clearance of speaker and fuel tank its a pain cause inserting 8.8 into lowers then setting fuel tank back on and trying to hold them where they will actually sit when screwed on to lowers is two different things there is very little mounting surface and if not just right mounting screws will not have enough meat to hold also trying to get JL emblem at angle you want.
mark holes double check all holes are centered in mounting flange drill vacuum out pods and mount.same for other side but the trick is to get JL emblem to match r/h seams easy but telling you these speakers are heavy and have nothing to rest on in inner pods so the alignment is tricky.
Gannicus i have curse of being short and could always hear lowers but what i hear now is night and day different than mmatts hertz bt had there. But also agree its a system not single components so dont think there for everyone.
Alex, cant wait to hear your though's don't think your a jl8.8 fan per say.But maybe you can come up with something that fits and has better cost/bass with less power needed.but bet you end up with these pods on your comp bike.
Tax return season isn't that far away, but I'm a tall guy - Tallboy footboard relocators, XL Banana boards, 3" extension on the brake with a big pedal, Klock werks front fender not sure I could shoe horn in the lowers without losing something.
Ha! FB if Alex puts those lowers on his comp bike I guarantee the speakers won't be the JL 8.8's!! He's strictly Pro audio these days!! No where near loud enough for him! lol

Yeah I'm a big fan of the 8.8's on the right bike. If a bike has nothing inside the bags they are probably the best option for lids. I wouldn't run them on a competition bike though. We fiberglassed rings in regular pods to fit 8 inch speakers (much smaller shallower PRV speakers)....I've considered going this route but I would want 8 inch speakers in the fairing to match. Might do it over the winter but I'd feel better about myself if we did the glass work in house!! Now for the guys that aren't going all out I could see 8.8 lids and lowers doing some damage and still leaving you all your bag space, well maybe an amp in there
15 street glider ill check fender clearance think brake and floor boards will be ok main thing is has to be Harley stock style crash bar.
gan i did say he was not fan of 8.8 but they are made for it and to install another speaker will take some glass work to the small lip in cut out for speaker
where you see the mounting screws in this pic there is no inner mounting surface left for anything smaller diameter wise. he has shop next to him that can fix this i am sure but not me at this point.

They can ship them uncut so you can cut them out for an 8". The grills like the ones from Lex Rivera will fill in the space around the speaker for a clean look.
