Default Thoughts or suggestions on system

Ok, first off just want to say thanks to everyone who participates for the wealth of information on this forum. I’ve been truly impressed with the depth of knowledge available here, and the willingness to share.

Setting up a budget (mostly used parts gathered here) System. Would like thoughts, suggestions, comments on what y’all think or if I’m missing something. Plan to do the install next weekend. This is my first fairing bike, so I’m completely green when it comes to bike audio.

Bike: 2005 CVO Electraglide FLHTCSE2
Fairing only for now. I have vented lowers, but no speaker pods in them. Not sure how to convert them for speakers, or what would sound good with this setup. Open to the idea of lowers, but looking for advice.
Head Unit: Aquatics AV aq-mp-5bt-h I plan to use an old iPhone 5S as an iPod & leave it inside the head unit.
Amp: Biketronics 2180
Biketronics Speaker Adapters. Plan to mount tweeters in Biketronics grills.
Mids: Digital Design AW 6.5
DD TXO-HP crossovers
DD AT28 Tweeters

thanks for any advice/input you guys are willing to share.

First, if there are ANY plans on adding lowers or rears to an amp then you need a good 4 channel amp. The bt2180 is only 2 channels and it is not tunable so start there. Spend a bit more for a good amp as it will outlast speakers meaning we tend to switch out speakers more than amps. JLxd400/4, tm400x4ad, If going all out in the future, a jl 600/6 will be what you need for front, lowers and rears. If adding rears tp speakers, the polk mm651 or 652 are very popular and water resistant. Those aw's should do you justice but from others here the euphoria components by dd are just as good for less $$. I personally have not run them but have heard them and they sound good to my old ears. The guru's should chime in as they are the experts and should be able to help with their suggestions.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks Gypsye,

Sounds like solid advice, however I already have the BT2180 (everything listed is what I have on hand) so I’ll guess that’s what I’ll start with. Odds are I’ll never add anything in the lids or tourpac (CVO lids would be hard to match), but I would like to eventually add speakers to my existing lowers. Would the polks pair up well with the AW/AT combo? Could I just add a second amp at that point? Or would I be better off selling the 2180 and moving to one of the amps you suggested? What do I need to convert my vented lowers to speakers, and how do you hide the wires (inside the crash bars?)? My goal is solid clear sound while riding, I don’t give two ***** for what it sounds like parked. I’m getting older and don’t hear great anymore, too many years in marines hearing things go bang and power tools since I got out, so need all the help I can get.

For the lowers, I would suggest a pa style speaker like the prv ndy as you have all the highs you need from the fairing. The pa speakers will add mid range/bass and compliment the fairing setup well. We all say that all we want is a good sounding setup but my brother, that's how it starts. When (not if) the time come to add those lowers, get a 4 channel amp and sell that 2180. Easier to have 1 good amp instead of trying to add more amps.

Put all that stuff that you have on hand in the sled and while u are out enjoying good audio, start pondering the next steps that will involve a killer amp and lowers, and whatever further steps you might want to take.

U will like those speakers!!! Dive deep on the tying features of that HU as the 2180 does not have gains and crossovers.

To add speakers to the lowers you will need the speaker pods, and set of speaker grills. Do a search on here for the wiring of the lowers, most people tend to run the wires in a braided sheathing and zip tie it under the crash bar so it blends it well.

Guys thanks for all the input! Did the research suggested by OC and speakers don’t look to hard to add to in to my existing lowers. Would a set of mmats be comparable to the PRV’s? They are are a little less expensive.

Next question: I know the 2180 isn’t really a first choice for you guys, mostly for lack of adjustability, but it does have decent specs, and it’s on the shelf in my garage already lol. The 2180 puts out 240 watts x 2 at 2ohms (2 sets in parallel) is 120 each enough to drive Aw/At in fairing and PRV or mmats in lowers? I’m guessing 120 Watts is enough for the PRV or mmats, but not sure on the AW.

Gypsye, thanks for the heads up on a new addiction...I suspect you might be right! You guys make it way too easy to get caught up in this stuff!

That power will be just fine for the Mmatt's or PRV. Both will sound good in that position. One thing to keep in mind is that you can get the Mmatt's marine treated from the factory.

The AW's will need 180 watts or more on their own. This amp won't help you running parallel or any other amp for that matter. Most run these on a 4ch amp in bridged mode.

Yep, I’m feeding my AWs 200w each off a bridged xd400. They need power to come to life.
