Tinkering with some Mmats - a couple of questions
Howdy all,
Garage Bagger Stereo had a sale on Mmats PA601s this week so I couldn't resist trying a set in my lowers. The box says bottom end frequency is 100hz. I have set the crossover there and they still seem to have decent bottom end for a 6.5. Is that what y'all normally set those for? I tinkered with full pass just for farts and giggles and they rattled the lowers.
Also on the website they didn't say anything about them being water resistant but when I got them today they have stickers on them that say Marine. Do y'all know if they have started treating them at the factory?
Thanks in advance for any and all opinions.

Yes. MMats treats them at the factory. 100hz sounds about right for those speakers. I used to like those a lot in the lowers for all the reasons you mentioned!
That begs another question. I have WDX6 Motos in the fairing now. Those things love to be hammered, but with eight speakers total I am not pounding those anymore, just blending them in with the other six. Would the AD CX621s I took out of the lowers sound better in the fairing than the Motos? The Motos do have more bottom end than the ADs do but the highs seem to be a little clearer on the ADs.
I could just shoot the unicorn and leave things as they are.

Hoyt, I have a very similar setup to you. The AD CX-621s in the upper and MMAT 601's in the lowers all powered with an MMATs MD4100 and I am quit pleased with my front stage. I am hoping to get the MD4100 crammed in to one of the cubbies on my RGS now to add a Stinger in there for my rears. Thanks to Haze and Gann for all the help with this setup, they are always great to help out and definitely know what they are talking about. I can hear clearly at 80+ and not even max out the volume. Haven't heard the DB Moto's but I know the ADs and MMATs sound great together and the MMATs do vibrate the crash bar. Lol

Thanks for the info. I guess one thing I am thinking of is those Motos don't mind abuse. I am running them on full pass now. The ADs require a higher crossover point than most 6.5s but the payoff is loud clear mids and highs. Right now I think the mids will be covered nicely by the Mmats.
I find that I don't like the fairing speakers blasting at me though. I like to blend them in with the other six so that I am sitting in the middle of the sound. I would experiment swapping the speakers around but the crossover controls for the front channel of the PN4.1000d are covered by the frame rail, so I would have to partially dismount the amp to adjust them. I guess that's one vote for shooting the unicorn.
I was thinking about maybe swapping out the SS in the front for a TM400x4ad one day because it sounds a little warmer and may be kinder to FM reception, but that SS has power to spare and doesn't even get warm, so I am not really feeling pushed to ditch it at this point.
