Default I need help!!!!!

My wife challenged me that I cant get my system loud enough she can hear it with her full face helmet on. I love a challenge and if it's too loud your too old!!!

Now before you all get excited I dont have a easy bike to work with. I have a 88 Ultra. I can't fit anything other than 4" speakers in the fairing. I have looked and can't find speaker lids. So.... If I want to add 6x9's to the lids I have to move my battery from behind the right bag to under the seat so that I can put newer bags and speaker lids on. I don't want to spend the money to modify it to be able to to add 6X9s to the bags or replace the inner fairing to put 6.5's in it. I have a 09 Road King that I could trade in for something I can "really" add a system too. Just like the challenge of getting a great system out of my 88.

Now this is what I have now........

4" PRV 4MR60-4's in the fairing, 6.5 PRV 6MB200-4's in the lowers, DS18 TX1S tweeters in grils in the lowers, SS PN4.520D and a Kenwood KMR-D372BT.

The 4" PRV are run of the HU. The 6.5 PRV's and DS18 tweeters are on their own channels on the amp.

It sounds good in the garage but at highway speed it fades fast. What can I do to improve this system? I'm open to new speakers, amp, dsp.........

I also realize that I may not be able to do much because of my limitations.

If I had that bike I'd be hesitant to chop it up just for audio. Just my .02. Maybe see about adding a micro amp to the fairing speakers? I really don't think you will be able to do much with 4" speakers though.

I would love to have an Evo in good condition just for what it is. I skipped from a Shovelhead to an early twin cam so I missed those years completely.

I don't want to chop it up!! Although it has had some mods done to it. Its far from original. I love the old EVO!! It has a soul that my 09 doesn't have. I'm never getting rid of it!!!

I thought about a amp for the fairing speakers but they are only rated for 60W max. Maybe change them for a higher watt speaker and a amp???

change the speakers in the lowers, to prv 6mr500's 4ohm, get SD Evo800.4, DSP of your choice, ARC PSM is the smallest, either PRV 8MB600FT's or the yellow basket Ground Zero 8's in the bags facing the wheels, and a SD Evo 400.4to run the horns and run the 4 inch Prv's .mount the amps in the bags and tune it up. it will definitely be able to be heard with a full face helmet on. if you wanted to take it a step further you could cut your current bag lids to fir another 2 PRV 6mr500's and fit them also, in that case get 2 Evo 800's or one Evo 1200.4.

Not really interested in cutting the lids or modifying the bags. Only because they seam to be as hard to find as hens teeth. That being said I could sell them and probably brake even or come out ahead with the mods I'd need to do to put newer bags on. Because I have a set of newer bags I bout for the Road King to replace the fake leather bags on it. Might have to start looking at what my budget allows.

Roger that. I have a small amp in my clutch side bag and 6x9s in the lids of my 2010. It doesn't sound like much compared to what the heavy hitters here are doing but even that little bit of stuff took up cargo space that I dearly miss.

One thing you may want to ask your wife is does she prefer cargo space or music. Since she wears a full face helmet she may just want to invest in some good earbuds to use with her phone. If y'all want to listen to the same thing and set up communications you could get a pair of Bluetooth headsets and mate them to your head unit.

I myself am at the point that if any more sound requires any more cargo space I'll just do without the sound. I was riding for well over 30 years before I ever rode a bike that had a stereo in it.

Also with the age of your charging system all these new fangled amps may be more than your electrical system can push. Maybe someone with specific knowledge can say what yours can stand, but we have seen folks here with pre 2009 models get into trouble with their charging systems. I can only imagine that the 88 models MIGHT be capable of even less.

If I were in your shoes and could wait a bit I might trade in the Road King for a used Rushmore bike of some kid. They have lots of space for add ons and already have 6.5" speaker holes in the fairing.

I still find it odd that we are talking about Evos being classic bikes. I still remember thinking anyone with a bike without a kickstarter was rich. I find the Evo sound to be my second favorite just behind the Shovelhead.

Put the PRVs that someone mentioned above with about 150 watts to them and she will hear them
just fine and you will win your bet.

If I trade it in it will probably be this time next year. Depending on the budget. I bought it thinking I would ride it more than I have. Just cant be without tunes and I cant do earbuds when I ride.

It was officially 30 years old on June 6th 20018. I have the original sales receipt. It was $13,500 new. I'm not the original owner.
