The AD 5000's are a woofer only with no highs. I have mine crossed from 75 to 3500 hz off half of a 1200.4 4 ohm. I paired them with the AD 4000 tweeters and that set up is just damn good.

PRV's arent even in the same game let alone the same league as the AD's. I have run high end hertz, beyma's, faital's, and these out play all of them for SQ. The problem is as technology improves, so does the speakers in motorcycle audio. There will come even a better product than these 5000's soon enough. Car audio is not what it use to be but motorcycle audio is booming and the manufacturers are finally catching up. Every day there is a smaller more power amp on the market and the speakers just keep getting better and better.

Gypsies AD5000's is one of the bikes I heard firsthand. They sound just plain good. They have some mid bass punch, great mids and vocals and the tweeters are smooth, not piercing. Granted he's got some tuning time in them, but well worth the effort.

To the OP, as a little cheaper alternative, the AD4000's do a great job also.

So is a DSP needed to really set the AD5000s up properly even for a fairing only setup running the woofer and tweeter, or does the tweeter have something built into it that would make the high pass function on an amp sufficient to get the performance out of them?

If it's a DSP recommended but not necessary scenario, is not having a DSP giving up enough sound quality and performance to make a big enough difference at speed that the higher cost of the speakers now wouldn't be worth it?

How many watts are you guys putting to them?

I'm running a pair of the GZCF's yellow baskets off a bridged SD400.4 and it sounds pretty good for a pair of 6.5 coax's , pretty hard to beat for the money. GZ now has a NEO version out, but there double the money too.
You could go with the SD 800.4 , I believe that would still fit under your head unit.

i ran the ad 4000's until the 5000's came out....op asked for the best two speaker setups, if there are better fairing speakers, there aren't many better than the AD 5000's paired with their tweeters....the ad tweeters are solid...as a stand alone system, you'd be really happy

the 4000 series sounded great, but the cone was a woven fiber that got weird if it got wet, if I rode through a soaker, which happens, the speakers would crackle like they were failing...over the course of a day or two, they'd dry out and sound great....the new 5000's have a more weather proof design, never had an issue with them, the rubber around the outside of the cone is a better design, a bit beefier

I run mine off of an Arc Moto 720, plenty of power and a solid amp, i use a second to power my 6x9s in the bags

we did a set of GZ yellow baskets in my brother's street glide....a lot less money, a quantum leap above oem options, and they thump
