Default Ultra Classic Speaker Question

What, if anything, is the difference between the front and rear speakers on an Ultra Classic?

I ordered two pair of Hogtunes speakers from an eBay online vendor for my '06 and realized after ordering them that Hogtunes shows different part numbers for front and rears on their website.

So I've got two pair of front speakers coming. Will "front" speakers work in the back?

And YES, I posted this question in the Touring forum (my normal hangout) before realizing this was probably the better place to ask my question.

your model year bike runs 2 ohm speakers stock and they are the same front and rear being 5.25".

Can you tell me what you bought so I can elaborate a little further for you sir.

Happily.

I ordered two pairs of Hogtunes 902.2-AA, planning to run them front and back.

It was after ordering I realized Hogtunes calls this a FRONT speak on their website, and lists 117.2-AA as the rear speaker.

I figured there must be a reason they don't spec the 902.2-AA at all four corners.

hogtunes website sucks.

what I can ascertain is the magnet size is quite a bit larger for front (902.2-AA) than rear (117.2-AA) which stands to reason because you don't have much mounting depth in the rear pods.

So I can safely assume the 902.2-AA won't fit in the rear pods due to the larger magnet.

I'll contact the vendor first thing in the morning to see if he'll change my order... same price either way.

well you know for sure the fronts will fit. When you get them in only unbox 1 set and see if they'll slip in there. If they do, I'd stick with them because the larger magnet usually means a larger power handling capability.

UltraNutZ and others, I received this reply from Hogtunes technical support about the difference bewteen their HT front and rear speakers:

The 902.2-AA speaker is a front speaker, where the 117.2-AA is designed to be a rear speaker. The 902.2 will not fit in the factory HD rear pods due to their depth. The 117.2 will fit just fine.

UltraNutZ was right. The bigger magnet will not fit in the rear pods, thus a smaller magnet on the rear speakers.
