Hogtunes speaker lid question
I would say if they're polypropylene, then 2 light coats of flat black rustoleum would do the trick. tape off the surrounds as you don't want paint on them.
I don't know anything about these HT speakers so I can't tell you what the construction of the woofer area is. Regardless the woofer area is simply a cover that moves air so if you want to paint it black, go for it. As long as you keep it lightly coated you'll be fine. If you put it on heavy, then it stresses the voice coil which is rated for a certain weight of the cone.
BUT....
if you go through this and then later on have issues with the speakers, you're likely to not get any warranty from HT on them.

Words of wisdom, lets see if the white stuff ever melts and see how we live with them in silver. Grilles come off easy enough, we can do this over the summer if needed. Thanks for the advise.
I didn't go look at that thread but completely slipped my mind (busy doing other things) to say. go look for some acoustic material in black. Wrap the top of the 6x9 with it around the frame then mount the speaker to the lid.
Cycle Sounds sells this stuff also.
