Default Tuning after new cams

I know that tons of "tuning magic" can be done for the EFI guys. However, I am not very happy with the way my indie "tuned" my 03 carb'd Fatboy after pipes and AC. They basically ran it and put the CLOSEST main jet they had in the drawer. It runs good but not much of a "tune" in my opinion. I just had Andrews 37's (I know 21/26's would have been better but 95"coming soon.) added to my Propipe and Heavy Breather. I feel like I could order $20-30 worth of jets and do just as good of a job. I am not a mechanic, but do some of my own work. I currently have either a 190 or 200 main jet (they needed a 195 but didn't have it in the drawer.) They didn't tell me what they put, and I didn't care at the time. Not sure what my pilot jet is. Is this a task that I should consider? Thanks in advance.

A 45/190 should work very well. Don't forget that cam likes a little more comp than what stock compression offers... It would also benefit from some head work.. So it will suffer a little in the entire rpm range....

95 or 98CI coming within a year, just needed to address tensioners now and don't want to change cams again later.

"It runs good but not much of a "tune" in my opinion."

Perhaps he's an expert and hit on exactly what your bike needed! There are bound to be times when something works out just right, a mixture of skill and good judgement. Or would you rather he spent hours messing around until he proved that the original setting was best after all?! If it runs good at present then enjoy it until the next round of mods.

You must have missed the part where they used the closest jet they had in the drawer, to the one they wanted. Maybe they were experts that guessed wrong, or maybe they got lucky, or maybe it runs good but is not actually "tuned". Thanks for the input though.

I was happy with it, except for being a couple hundred bucks lighter in my wallet. As stated in the original post,I am in the middle of my next modifications, and I suspect I could do the job with a little help from this forum, and others like it, and $20-30 worth of jets. Save the few hundred bucks for the NEXT round of modifications.

The 45/190 is stock. I have a 46/195 in my cammed 88". I've seen some use a 48/200 on a built 98". You can buy them here.
