Carb - Needle - What Species is this?
2003 Wide Glide.
This is slightly modified and I opened up the carb and found this:
The model calls for carb needle N9EZ - (28025-03) but this looks like it might be from a Dynojet kit or something. Or is this the "ez"?
I can either replace it with stock or the older Sportster needle (27094-88) which is apparently popular. I saw a post that said that shimmed stock needle is better than the Sportster needle - https://www.hdforums.com/forum/carbu...ggestions.html

Also - can I get some jet recommendations?
It has a large V&H 2 into 1 pipe with 48/175 jets. Stock jets are 45/190.
I can see the 48 being needed for the pipes - but what effect would the 175 have on the configuration compared to 190? Should I get the 190 in there?

Anybody have thoughts on this? I'm pretty convinced the needle is aftermarket and it's been relegated to trash.
On the jets - 175 v. 190 stock - what would the practical application of a smaller jet be? I already ordered a 190 to take it closer to original but if there's some benefit- I don't know. I rarely ride wide open throttle and ride pretty conservatively if that is of any use.
I'm not able to experiment with it right now due to time and also waiting for other jet.

Dynojet has the clip like in that pic, but also if memory serves me, the tip of the needle is rounded instead of a tapered point. Hard to tell in your pic.
Jetting is what each individual bike runs best at. Mine is stock engine with screamin eagle/KN air cleaner, cycle shacks MT-129 with crossover pipe and runs a 46 and 175.
Stock was 42 and 165. I have the CV performance big twin needle and the bike is happy. Just read your plugs with every change you make. YD

that is not an N9EZ needle, I have 2 of them in my jet kit, no OEM needle that I'm aware of looks like that. it is most certainly a dynojet or some other aftermarket needle.
a 48 slow jet is plenty big, most people run their motors way to rich... shimming the needle will only make it richer. you can try the 45/190 and see how it does.
just pick a starting point, example; 45/190, N9EZ, 2 turns out on the mixture screw. all you can do is to try it and make changes from there if necessary.
but do not change more than 1 thing at a time after your "starting point" so you know what that particular change affects, then write it down for reference. just be methodical about it and you will get it right.

Cool. For better or for worse I picked up the Sportster needle because that's what the dealer had in stock. So I won't shim it. I will try with 48/190 first since that seems to be the most likely but I can sense a rich running bike like a bloodhound can track a scent and will go to 45 if needed. It will be a few weeks with my schedule but will try to report back how it goes and if I do ultimately and up with the N9EZ as well.

Just went thru this myself and had to replace everything back to stock and went with the N65 sportster needle. Way better now.
Also, while the slow jet will fit, a 45 dynojet is not the same as a 45 cv jet. I'd replace that as well and the velocity emulsion tube that the main goes in.
I'd be wiling to bet the bleed hole on the bottom of the slide is drilled out to 1/8 as well and spring lighter. Mine was. Replaced those too.
