i believe the front is a 22 from what i remember. the rear is a 48t. i dont mind the match in sprockets and havent even considered changing it. off the line is ok and highway speed is good enough. i think i'll stick with it. are you setting yours up now?
Yeah it's in progress now. I'm no bike builder but hopefully it will turn out to be a fair backyard build!
The sprocket is the last part to choose, all the other parts are waiting to go on. I'm weak on gear ratio's so I've been looking for advice everywhere. I got the impression the 22 / 48 was pretty low and gives good low end performance but lowers your highway top speed. I'm looking for good medium ground, I don't want to drag race, but i dont want to sacrifice the torque of takoff for low highway rpm's.
I'll probably go with a 23 tooth unless someone says otherwise.

For what it's worth, I ran for years with a 20/49 and had terrific acceleration, even ran at the drags for a couple of years. Unfortunately, this ratio also made for a real busy engine at 60-70mph, not real comfortable. Recently switched to a 24/49 and 60-70 is now in a smooth part of the rpm range. Doesn't have the same launch but makes for a better ride all around. Still has a great 50 mph rollon for passing. 23/48 is a similar ration and should work for you. A chop is considerably lighter the most HDs and doesn't need a "granny low" to get it moving.
So now you know why they are called hardtails.Make your tail hard from abuse.I just finished one.Its just bar hopper though 10 to 12 mile shots most times so after 5 or 6 bars *** already numb.
But hey its cool bike.Im not much on the high frontends myself.but that the fun of it.Its still looks cool just never liked the handling point.
