The cam chain tensioner is a problem for that year bike as told to me by the HD service manager locally. He told me they fixed the problem in 2007.

The 06 dyna has the new style cam chain system. The other model bikes didn't get the new system till 07.

The 06 dyna does have a couple of one year only parts arrangements but every part on a 06 dyna is used on other bikes. There is no problem getting replacement parts.

I wouldn't hesitate to get another 06. Check to see if the IPB and the alternator stator are original and if so use that to knock the price down a bit. Then replace them with the money saved.

I have an 06 with 64,000 kms on it and I would not hesitate to buy another one. I had the IPB issue and Harley replaced the cases for free. I paid for the stator upgrade at the same time and other then those known issues I have never had a problem with the bike.

Should these stains under the air cleaner be cause for concern? Oil dripping?

(never mind, see below)

Decided to pass not only on this '06, but Super Glides in general. Test rode an '09 today and there was a lot I liked about it (ergonomics, engine), but that single disc up front doesn't cut it. I need a bike that will stop.

Also test rode a '14 Low Rider and the braking power was much improved (dual discs), but the front end dove like crazy, but at least the bike stops. Perhaps some replacement springs up front would solve. It had the booster seat removed and the bars fairly far forward (I'm 5'9") and the more I rode it the more I liked it. Kinda wish the pegs were another 2" forward but love how the risers are adjustable. The throttle had a little lag, though. Not sure what that's about. It wasn't as quick as the '09 SG.

Maybe in a couple years I'll keep an eye out for a used '14 Low Rider, maybe even one with ABS since it's an option.

For those of us with the original cases (me) the best fix is the baker bearing. The Baker bearing is a heavy duty bearing that is capable of handeling higher loads without failure.
Is there any evidence for the Baker bearing being a long-term fix? Like holding up after 50 thousand miles or so?
If so, I haven't seen it yet, but I've seen a few reports of failures with far fewer miles .

Looks like the OP just wanted a sport bike. Wants more stopping power, no front end dive, quickness, no throttle lag. Bet he's still on his Hondasawki in a couple years.

I've never been on a sport bike in my life, but I do know what to expected performance wise from a cruiser in this price range. I think I need to try the Fat Bob. I hear it handles and brakes well.

Default 05 Super Glide FXDi

My experience was positive on my new 05 Super Glide FXDi fuel injected with laced wheels and security system. I updated the Glide with Stage 1 air cleaner, download and slip ons and replaced brake pads with Lyndalls.
Rode over 14,000 miles with no problems and changed to all synthetic Mobil 1 fluids at first service. Bike handled and stopped well and Michelin commanders improved ride quality.
Traded in on a Softail and appreciate the 6 speed during long rides.
