Another carburetor question...
I have a SE stage 1 setup on my 88 powered '01 SG. and I scored a CV-44 with a SE intake on Saturday. I have had a bit of a flat spot on the acceleration curve that I just can not seem to tweak out and I was planning on going back and up the main jet and drop a washer on the needle on the next wet weekend. However, I stumbled onto a deal ($100 for both) on the CV-44 and intake that was taken off of a running heavily modified 2004 TC 88 engine on an Electra Glide.
I put a round air cleaner cover on awhile back and I plan on opening it up some by drilling 2-3 1.5 inch holes on the bottom side.
I am going to open the 44 carb up to see what jets are installed before running it on my engine and rejet it if they are too big or too small.
I am good with rebuilding and rejetting the carb but this carb has a vent or overflow tube coming from the bottom of the bowl that is not on the CV-40 that is on the bike now.
What do I do with this tube? Where does it route, between the jugs and between the inner primary cover and engine/tranny?
I am open to all and any suggestions/opinions on this...

Sounds like a Smokin Deal. The vent tube drops down and goes towards the tranny. As for the jetting . . . gotta remember it's a 44, not a 40. It's going to flow more air. I'm pretty sure the jets are different between CV40 & CV44's. Wood Carbs can give you good tuning info on the jetting. Best bet is, freshen it up with a rebuild kit. Stay away from CV Performance stuff, not the highest quality stuff out there. Probably have to do it the Old Fashioned way - swap the carb, test run and check the plugs. You might just be surprised with the jetting the way it is. With that flat spot, did you check your accelerator pump? Might want to check how big the vacuum port has been hogged out in the vacuum slide too. Either or can give you a flat spot that you can't cure or carb farts when off idle.
Thanks for the feedback! I was thinking that tube was a fuel overflow setup but I was not sure exactly what it was or where it routed.
The bike came with some Hooker 2-in-1 headers and the carb was not tuned worth a crap. It had a lot of decel popping and was a real bear to warm up. The exhaust muffler was pretty ratty and I could not find a replacement with the large diameter inlet to fit Hookers so I found a good deal on some Samson Conquest Wildcats 2-in-2 pipes, but I still could not get the carb just right. I finally rebuilt the carb last spring when I noticed the accel pump diaphragm was leaking and upped the main jet from a 180 to a 185, replaced the CV emulsion tube and needle with the good HD parts and pulled out all the CV stuff that some PO had installed. It ran much better, no decel popping or farting, and it warms up quick, but it still had that annoying flat spot...nothing major, just annoying.
I never really liked the way the Samsons looked and the low end torque sucked with them on, so when I stumbled on a NOS Screaming Eagle Double Barrel Pro setup for cheap over the holidays, I put them on. The low end acceleration and overall performance is much better, but there still is that annoying flat spot noticeable when accelerating through 3rd gear. I was looking around for a larger carb when I stumbled on the SE CV-44 setup. My nephew is going all out with the TC88 on his EG and putting a Mikuni 45 on it so me and Old Benjamin talked him out of his take-off carb and intake. I got a rebuild kit for it and was going to go with a 205 main jet and a 48 pilot jet and see what happens.
More later...
