----- Since I was sitting here staring at it, I went ahead and snapped a few pics of that reduced flange 3/8 bolt. I'm super pleased with the new cutting tools and holder for my lathe, BTW! Carbide FTW! So much better than hand sharpened HSS. The 17-4PH stainless is WAY more ductile than I expected. I still need to do a little tweaking of the tool setup, but even with the chip breakers on the cutters, I was getting long stretchy shavings. Theu don't seem all that brittle. Good stuff. https://i.postimg.cc/h4YmnVrx/20170419_194316_HDR.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/y6G1xP21/20170419_193849_HDR.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/440W07H2/20170419_194752_HDR.jpg |
Final version in .060 alloy steel. I wanted a bit more cross section, just for looks and this is what I had laying around. It's powder coated in grey right now but I'll shoot satin black over it when the weather dries up.
Two minor tweaks the fitup prompted: I added a hem and widened the cross piece so it wouldn't chaff the cables & wires goin thru the upper tree. Still need to do some minor edge cleanup by hand and I've got a few nicks here and there but it should look fine in black. https://i.postimg.cc/rybL9pVM/20170420_115521_HDR.jpg |
One custom trim washer down. One to go. Tomorrow night.
Stainless M8 button head and .875 OD counterbored washer from 316 stainless. Still need to polish them both, but I like the fit. The 316 stainless started as a 2" hex bar. Just what I had. Took a lot of turning to make this little guy. :) https://i.postimg.cc/dQXLTvgT/20170420_213135_HDR.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/HWKFGP7g/20170420_213152_HDR.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/Y2Vz253d/20170420_213200_HDR.jpg |

Outstanding! Raising the bar - with every nut and bolt.

Rim and spokes finally arrived today!

Bead won't seal without some kind of repair to the grind area. Same as the 5.5 I'm running out back. :( Disappointing for retail price, but I got the rear for a steal and wanted the front to match. https://i.postimg.cc/44Sjk4Sy/20170421_134710_HDR.jpg |
Mounted up the 150/80-17 just to see it sitting next to a 200/60-16.

It would be better to leave them un-ground if you could specify, but it doesn't work like that |
The box says "Made in Japan". :icon_shrug:
Honestly, I'd rather have Sun rims but they don't make them in wide widths. 3.5 is their limit, I think. |
