Default Can't get handle bars tight

Hey guys I need some help with my handle bars. I bought new bars and riser. The bars are not knurled nor are the risers. So of course no matter how tight the bolts are the bars still move. How can I stop them from moving? What's some success stories of people fixing this issue.

Is there a gap between the riser and the cap?

Cut some shims out of thin metal such as a beer can.

If the bars are painted or powdered over the center that could be covering the knurl marks and making it slick. You could try scraping off the paint/powder in that area or roughing it up. Or scratch up the insides of the clamp and riser to make it rougher. You can also put random strips of super glue/gorilla glue made for metals on the bars forming your own sort of knurl marks. Let it dry so they're not glued together and then the riser and clamp should bite better.

Even all the way tightened down, there should be a gap on both sides of the bar on each riser.
A shim should do it but you could also sand down the caps and risers a bit also.

Nevil and AKFXD are both right on the mark. I had a similar issue w/ an old KZ 125 back when I couldn't afford a pot to **** in, both bars and clamps were "very tired". I took some thick emery cloth and wrapped the bars where the clamps were. Crud, but very effective and withstood any abuse I threw at it.
What worries me, is that there isn't any space/gap between the clamps and the risers. Not trying to be insulting, but you did order the right combo didn't you?

My buddy just had the same problem. We tried a beer can and it was too thin. He found a thicker soup can, cut a shim and punched a bunch of small holes in it to give it purchase and it works like a champ now.

Another victim of someone buying cheap crap. For all the hassle...pay the extra buck and get something that works without headachea of fabricating stuff out of beer and soup cans lol.
