Default Oil level check after oil change on '06 Dyna.

Checked it hot on the jiffy stand after oil and filter change, and it's showing about a half inch over the full mark on the dip stick. Says do not overfill right on the dipstick. Problem ? Added 3 quarts per service manual.

3 quarts is capacity when dry. During an oil change, you never get it all out, about 1/2 quart is still in the bike. "Borrow" a turkey baster from the wife (or significant other) and suck some of it out.

I wouldn't fret about it. The excess will come out the rocker vents into the air cleaner or out your vent hose if you did a reroute. I usually only add 2.5 qts to my 2002 Dyna then ride and check. I also fill the filter with oil and allow it to saturate the media as well so theres more than 2.5 qts of new oil in there. I normally have to add a little oil but not much.

Joe is right. You can suck some out for peace of mind.

Either Turkey baster or pump some out. I usually add 2.25-2.5 to start with, and warm it up, then top it off, as it is so much easier to add, then subtract

3 qt too much. 2 to 2.5 is the average.

Cold oil check, make sure it's closer to the lower level cause once it warms up it'll jump half way up the dip stick or more.

I'm surprised so many people keep making the same mistakes when oil changing. It's like the 3rd thread I've seen this month or so with the same issues.

The only problem that you're going to encounter is about half a quart blowing out the air cleaner all over the right side of your bike and your leg. Other than that, you're good to go!

Surprised the "twinkie" holds less oil than an EVO.

Even tho the twink is larger...

Well maybe if HD printed the proper amounts, people wouldn't overfill. Anyone who has ever worked on a motor knows it's never totally dry unless torn down, so why even print that amount. Maybe someday they'll get into the 21st century and give us an oil glass window, using a dipstick is archaic and messy. I'm all about keeping the classic looks and styling, putting a dipstick on a cap next to a smoldering hot pipe is just a crappy design.

Baster doesn't work alone, won't reach down there. I used a couple feet of clear tubing at the end of the baster and sucked enough out to make it right. Thanks for the tip. Next time I'll start out with less and add later.
