Default 2006 Dyna rotor bolt fix - Weld or Red Loctite?

2006 Dyna with the problematic (thought no issues on my particular one) stator cover - I already have the primary off for some other stuff and I wanted to do some proactive maintenance on my stator cover so that the bolts don't walk out and eat my stator as is the problem with the design of this cover. I have seen where some guys have just tack welded the bolt heads, and I've shown this to a few guys I know who can kind of weld, and they seem to think that it's a bit of a job, and could maybe lead to warping or balance issues, so the next fix I've seen is red Loctite - is that sufficient for this fix? Should I just suck it up and order the once piece 2007 stator cover and be done with it?

That's the rotor in the picture. It is not a stator cover.

Yes and that is why i asked for a picture of yours because the only other "Cover's" outside the stator is the compensating sprocket and Outer Primary covers, but you said stator cover

It's part number 40356-06 - It is called the Rotor Assembly. On the 2006 Dyna, it was a two piece deal. The part with the magnets that goes over the stator itself with the magnets in it is bolted to the rotor piece. It was changed in 2007 to just a one piece assembly. The bolts are come in from the inside of the cover and they have been know to back out and chew up the wire coils in the stator. Some guys fix the problem with red loctite, some people weld the head on the bolts in place so that they can't turn, and some people just replace it with the 2007 part (but it's like $160).

Since posting this, I decided to try the red Loctite route and my bolts are in so tight already that I couldn't get them to budge, so I decided to just leave things as they are and if they ever do back out, I'll just replace it with the 2007 part.

Mud is correct, mine were tight as could be and I did the same as you, just let it ride. I was back inside the primary after about 2,500 miles cleaning up the mess.

Here is what you WILL hear when it goes.

They are in tight enough that I can't budge them - maybe I should just spring for the updated 07 part?

***Edit*** Thanks for the urging guys. I just ordered the '07 part from Ronnie's. This trip into the primary is costing me a ton in tools and parts, but with the baker IPB upgrade, and fixing the rotor bolt back out problem, and finally getting that ticking time bomb of a final drive belt replaced, I should be in good shape for the next few years.

You know that if you change that to the 07 style you will need a new stator as well and a different style compensator
