Default Internal or External breather?

Are air filter with external breathers better than recirculating hot engine air back in? If so besides DK, who else has this ability so I can see what's out their would like to vent it to air not recirculate it back into my engine.

Just go with DK. There are other manufactures. But, DK the best at the right price.

Pretty much anything can be converted. What do you like?

I got all my pieces to make an external breather at AutoZone. Ended up costing me about $20.

Pretty sure any stage 1 AC will flow more air then any stock motor will draw. Its only when you go big on displacement or other high performance mods (big cams + intake porting + TB, etc.) will an bigger filter be needed.

At the point your motor is probably at (and until you drop serious coin) its only a matter of appearance (as long as external breathers of course)

The 10 gauge is one of the ones that's going to be difficult to convert since it integrates the breathers into the backplate.

Best bang for buck is probably gonna be a DK Customs. Most of the air cleaner, exhaust, and seat producers rape us because they know we will pay.

I like Biltwell, DK Custom, & Lowbrow Customs. Good guys with good product at fair prices.

NESS, RSD, & V&H are the worst rape offenders of the bunch, IMO. (of course, there are always gonna be those guys that need their contrast-cut, CNC billet, gold inlay doodads. That's fine, but it's expensive.)

The Enhanced 10 gauge is a decent A/C if that's the style you're after. It's venting externally but their 587 provides more, as you've said, bang for the buck. I'm running their 587 with the smooth chrome bobber cover and breather bolts.

True dat! I paid the long dollar for the V&H BSS's simply because to my eye it's the only exhaust that looks proper with the new Wide Glide's and the only Arlen Ness I've ever bought was the Big Brake rotor; that little gem works! The rest, meh...

I looked up the pricing a couple months ago on the Ness BBR and was pleasantly surprised at the relative affordability.

My day job is actually in the prototyping and low-volume business so I understand more than most the cost and difficulty of producing a limited volume product (machined billet, CNC bent tubing, assembly, etc). V&H are FAR from limited volume. The cost of Ness and RSD are actually a bit easier for me to swallow because of the complex CNC machining, but they're also making a HUGE profit.

I regularly have complex parts machined from 10+ pound blocks of stainless steel in quantities of 1-3 pieces and my finished cost is like $800-$600 each at those volumes. These are difficult to machine parts in a less than ideal material. Increase that volume to a hundred or so units and the cost drops by half or more. You can image how much money these guys are making when they produce thousands (or more!) of units in aluminum (a pretty cheap and fast machining metal). That even assumes domestic machining. Move that to China and OMG...

I'm running a Performance Machine MAX HP Black OPS dunno if that's going to be good for when I go from a 103 to a 117 or 124, if still more than enough then I'd keep it and redo it so can use external cans to vent out and try to find were to get those and how to cap off the back of it were the venting goes into the Air Cleaner.

Anyone know we're to get the cans that bolt directly on heads vents and how to block off the back plate?
