Default My Project - 2002 FXDX

Last weekend I picked up this cream puff of an FXDX. I've been looking for one for a few months in hopes of trading a chopper I have for one, but this deal was too good to pass up so I bought it. 2002 with 11k miles. Basically stock except for Stage 1 (Exhaust and Air Cleaner). Currently has very rare black Screamin Eagle II exhaust, which will eventually be up for sale.

Short term plan:
- Ordered Black Thunderheader with Heat Shields
- Ordered HD Quarter fairing and Mounting Kit
- Ordered 10" West Coast MX Bars
- Ordered new Avon Cobra Tires
- Maintenance and fluid changes (oil, forks, brakes, etc.)

Long Term Plan
- Motor work/ big bore kit
- Powdercoating
- Paint

I've read tons of threads related to the Club Style Dynas and many others, but I cannot find a definitive answer on whether or not I will need to change any of the cables/ wires for the new 10" MX bars. Can someone point me in the right direction or give an answer with certainty? I'm also wondering about rejetting the carb when I install the Thunderheader. Does anyone have the jet sizes/ part numbers I will need? I'm sure that I'll have a ton of questions in the near future.

I'll update this thread with progress pics as I go.

I don't have the answer, but that is a sweetie. I wish I could find a clean one like that.

Hmm... No big deal, but unless the '02s are different from the '00s and '01s, the rear signals were relocated. They were on a bar on the rear fender originally. It's usually more common to see signals that started on the struts relocated to the rear for saddlebag/sissy bar clearance than the opposite...

That's the stock turn signal location on a 2002 FXDX. Nice catch on the difference though.

Sweet bike ! You might have trouble with the clutch cable being tight with 10" bars and the brake line too, but you can 'bend' the metal part of the brake line. I have 8" risers and 1" bars on my 03 and to me that's the limit with stock cables. I have the sportster jet needle [#27094-88] on mine with a V&H pipe and that's perfect. Good luck with the mods. and keep the pics. coming...b.

I'm super close to pulling the trigger on the extended top brake line and clutch cable from Magnum Shielding. I don't want to start working on the handlebars once I get them, then have to wait for longer cables/ lines if the originals wont reach.

Decisions, decisions. Someone convince me otherwise.

Again, more conflicting information in the answers to this topic.
