Then i wonder what the point of the bevel is for? Because it matches the bevel on the star nut

I am scratching my head thinking you have the top tree referred to wrong. Post 3 is correct and that bevel on the adjuster fits in the bevel in the top tree. When you torque the top nut on top of the tree, that bevel locks the adjuster. The bevel in the top tree goes down toward the adjuster bevel. That 1111 should not be seen when the tree is on bike when you look down at the bar.

Recall - when you tighten that castle nut - it put preload on the bearings - not a lot.., but enough for the fall away setting

That bevel (I believe) is to focus that preload

The steering nut just holds..., and locks it all together - and of course keeps the stem from falling out

When it swivels - it does so as one complete unit

Lol, dont worry im past that point lol. So heres where im at, the star nut in the picture is correct?
The top tree goes flat side down? Which makes the beveled part on the tree useless as far as i can tell

Flat side of top tree - down

Flip the nut over

I went out and looked at mine - near as I can tell serrations go up (against the bottom of the top tree)
