Angry Need a different route to work!

I either have to stop riding to work or find a different route. I was heading home Thursday evening just after dark, putting along in a long line of stop-and-go traffic coming up to the same busy intersection where I have had two other accidents when some idiot who is texting drifts over from the left lane into my lane as I am moving to the right behind two other cars to make my turn as the light turns yellow...this cager is in my blind side so I sensed more than saw them and quickly reacted and hit the right curb before they hit me and got tossed...scratched my exhaust tips and rear turn signal housing, bent my engine guard and broke my rear turn signal lens and right mirror...I have a couple of bruises and am pretty sore. And, of course, the offending moron didn't stop...which is probably a good thing in retrospect.

The driver behind me stopped traffic and got out and helped me pick up my ride. He me told me that the driver had been texting for a while and had been drifting into his lane and thought I had been hit. It happened so fast that I didn't even see what kind of vehicle it was...

I got the bike ready to ride when I got home and rode to work Friday...but that intersection is getting freaking crazy...

A lot of states have helmet laws, the federal government require seat belts, and both carry hefty fines for noncompliance, but for some reason here in Texas, banning cellphone use while driving infringes on "personal liberty"...WTF!

glad you got away alive

even in places where it's illegal, people still blatantly text while driving.

FWIW... Making texting illegal here in CA has had zero effect. Cops don't seem to care.

Glad to hear you could ride away.

When the federal gov't. has ignored "illegal" for so long it's no wonder the locals have also adapted to the it doesn't hurt anyone "illegal" and most states won't pursue it as a primary offense. Now that police are prohibited from checking phones, the inmates are ruling the asylum. If the law wants to fine cell users while driver make the fine worth it, $500.00, most anybody can afford a$100.00 these days. Glad you got out of it with the minor injury.
