Default Fork Stem

For you guys that have done the mid-Glide to Wide Glide conversion, how difficult will it be to remove the stem from the lower tree and then install to the new lower tree? I've got the rest figured out with your guys help. Or, should I just try and find the entire triple tree?
thanks

Where/how would you be getting just a lower tree without the stem?

Are you still looking for Wide Glide Trees?

Well, my plan was to buy the top and bottom separately from V-Twin and go from there, but........I'm thinking that may not be the best idea, so yes I'm looking for wide Glide trees.

Once it disassembled - remove the snap ring - press out the stem

Then press the stem into the new lower / install snap ring

Need a 20 ton press..., or bigger - its in there tight as hell - and makes a bang when it finally lets loose

Haven't done this particular swap on a harley - did on two dirt bikes I raced

Same process

Don't they come with a stem (I think it would be odd without). The V-twin pics I see, show a stem.

Also you didn't respond to your WTB thread ... I may have set

That's what gets people into trouble. They come out counter-intuitively.

You press from the the threaded end (top) out the bottom. Install by pressing into the bottom from snap ring side.

In fact you could leave the snap ring installed the whole time

You could - but you also stand a good chance of breaking the snap ring when it lets loose

Learning from another's experience..., is by far better than from one's own **** ups

Huh...breaking the snap ring???

My point is that people try to press out the stem the WRONG way. Because they think you have to remove the snap to get it out.

With the snap ring on when installing, it can act as your stop
