Default Forward control issues.

Hello everyone. I am a owner of my first Harley it's a 2002 Dyna super glide fxd. It has forward controls on it. I know you can get extensions for it if your legs are longer but my issue is there not out wide enough I have to ride with my feet in a very uncomfortable position and hold a lot of pressure to hold my feel on the pegs. To brake im having to point my toes in really far. Running 70 I fight the wind pulling my feet off as well as just riding my leg around the breather makes my knees hurt like hell. Is there any way to come further out the side from the bike or what do I need to do? Thanks.

If I were you I would find a set of wider pegs. Mabye even put a spacer in to move the shift peg out.

A lower profile A/C will do wonders DK Custom makes some of the lowest profile A/C's out there.

I run their 587 with low filter external breathers...

If it's just the right side, a "heavy breather" style (DK makes an affordable one) air cleaner will make a HUGE improvement.

If it's both sides, you'll need peg and lever extensions. (Or longer pegs/levers).

I just didnt know what they are called I know the have extender if your legs are longer but no idea what you call it when you want to come out the side more. Definitely going to look into the breather as well. It's mostly right but I also fight the left somewhat.

I ran into the same problem as you coalminer and I have come up with an ideal solution, at least for me. I am reverting back to mids onces I find someone to trade with and a new seat. I sat on a few bikes at the dealer with mid controls and the sun downer seat which is kinda beefy and realized what I need is a seat to move me back a bit (consensus is BMC Widowmaker cuz I like to two up). This would give me proper ankle angle and i can adjust shifter and brake as needed. For leg stretching, highway pegs. I scrap my forward controls pretty bad just normal riding and I want more "control" I feel off on forward controls even after 5kmiles

Aside from the width problems you're experiencing, if you're fighting wind pressure to keep your feet on the pegs then they're too far away. l had the same problem with a Night Rod Special l owned between my 07 FXD and my current Lowrider, there's no real fix other than bringing them closer or fitting mid mounts.

I went with these from Kuryakyn...the Stirrups move the pegs out plus give you someplace to rest your heals (I'm short myself, 5'6"). The longer brake pad makes it easier to reach. I also changed the air filter to one off a 2016 Street Bob, it takes away the tear drop shape and gives you more leg room. My bike is fuel injected so I'm not sure if that will mount on your's but they are cheap enough and all over ebay. I got mine from one of the guys here on the forum.
