Default 1999 Dyna Wide Glide - Leaking Fuel Bowl

Hi guys,

I have a 1999 Dyna Wide Glide 88cu with stock cv carb.

Carb was pouring gas in the engine. I removed and rebuilt the carb with HD parts, however, the fuel bowl is still leaking. I took the carbed back off and checked the float level according to HD servide manual, checked needle valve for debris and all clear, checked float level. Put the carb back on but it continues to leak.

The float valve is a 4-sided needle valve.

Any suggestions why the fuel keeps overflowing the bowl?

Is there a hole in the accelerator pump? That would be part of a rebuild but that term can be used with different meanings. Is there a leak in another part of the system that makes the petcock constantly flow?

Thanks for replying

I replaced the accelerator pump during the rebuild.

Not sure what you mean here

Regarding the leak - there was one time when I had a fuel bowl overflow - and it was when my vac hose on my petcock developed a leak. The petcock was on reserve (my bad) and overflowing it went. I can't say exactly what happened as I'm no expert on the hydraulics of the configuration but that was my scenario and the spill was real.

You're sure it's the bowl? The only thing that would cause the bowl to leak is a pinched rubber gasket.

It's probably not the bowl. What it more than likely is, is the plastic elbow for the fuel line to the carb.

Good call on the elbow! I had to replace mine recently.

I can't see what your pointing at, but the fuel is pooled in the throat, not the bowl.

Default carb leaking

I took the carb to a local harley Davison Dealership. Their carb expert could not figure out why it was leaking. He said, to throw it away and buy a new or a rebuilt. So i just ordered another cv carb instead of fighting the nightmare leak. I watch all the youtube video's on HD carbs I,m a retired master mechanic with a degree. So its not like I,m a rookie at this. But was very confident that the HD carb specialist would set me straight were i had failed to recognize my mistake. He said, the float level setting was set to spec's and i had appeared to have done an outstanding job. That don't solve my problem. I told him to bag it up and i will pick it up later. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was trying to help and i thank you for your wisdom and your for writing back. I will send a message when i finally find that LEAK. Lol.
