I just had no idea these were one time use bolts. Once they are used once, the threads won't be as tight the second time using them causing them to back out.

I was doing 140+ on a highway a couple minutes before they snapped. Snapped at 20 mph. I couldn't even be mad because if they snapped at those high speeds,I wouldn't be here.
One time use bolts have a yield strength , in other words , once they have been brought up to torque and stretched , they can not be safely removed and re-used , loc-tite or not they just can not be trusted to maintain clamp load. Some engines have head bolts that can not be re-used or gasket failure will result.

Glad you got it back together. Never would have thought those where one-time use bolts.

Hang it on the wall for some expensive garage art.

Wow, I had never heard of this before. Really good to know! Are these the Only "one use bolts" on the Harley's or is it on your model specifically?
I have a couple more questions if you know the answers...
1) What brand bolts did you replace these five bolts with, Harley Brand Bolts or a Harder Rating bolt from a hardware store?
2) Are there any other Bolts on our Harleys that are known as "one use bolts"?

There are several , if a guy was doing repairs by the book .

Examples .......

cam sprocket bolts
inner primary bolts
some compensator bolts
breather valve bolts
as already discussed and beaten like a dead horse .....sprocket bolts
brake rotor bolts

If I thought about it , there would be a few more...........

A proper manual has details on this , it's best to follow those suggestions and when using a manual , read all the side notes or important comments may get missed.
Any time a single use fastener is to be discarded it is mentioned in the manual , it may not be obvious but they always mention it. Also , loctite where required , the use of a torque wrench , application of lubricants or never-sieze is mentioned in the manual.

Love the wheel colour on there. Is that just a silver powdercoat?

Back in the day when I used to turn wrench's for a living, the only one time use bolts I ever heard of were heads bolts on a Chrysler 2.2 lr 4 cylinder and the reason was because of the inception of aluminum cylinder heads on a cast iron block the expansion rate of the head would stretch the bolt more than just a normal torqueing of the bolt. I've reused bolts on the drive pulley and rotors and torqued to specs with loctite and never had an issue... Just don't use stainless bolts...
