Belt vs. Chain
Why did HD go to belt in the first place if chains are better? Are belts safer or less maintenance?
After 184,608 miles on the original 1989 FXRS Engine & Transmission( I bought the bike NEW ) I installed a new S&S 107 C.I. EVO Engine and BAKER DRIVETRAIN 6 Speed Transmission and Primary. Then 3 days after all that WORK I shredded the rear drive belt . I switched that bike and my 2001 FXDX SUPER GLIDE SPORT and 2003 FXDL Anniversary Low Rider over to 530 series O-Ring Anodized Chains and BAKER Transmission Sprocket (23 tooth) and a total Zippers Performance Rear Sprocket(Steel) and stainless steel spacerts and all hardware. I believe that was the BEST Improvement besides replacing the entire drivetrain and Tranny on the FXR because the FXDX and FXDL have been ridden HARD,LONG and Raced & Wheelied,Holeshot, slammed and Beaten often and they've never given me a moments worth of trouble or worry . I'm a firm believer that ANY H-D with a good 530 ANODIZED O-Ring Chain & STEEL SPROCKETS is an investment well worth the time, and effort to preserve the miles and smiles those bikes give us .

Damn this a hard decision
Cross drilled brake lines
Heavy duty clutch belt
Boost bar
Chin nuts
High speed muffler bearings
710 cap
Johnson rod
Anti-reversing kuhneutson valve
Synthetic blinker fluid
Now the bitch rides like a cadillac..., runs like a scalded *** ape..., turns like it on rails..., stops like a jet landing on a carrier..., and shines like a diamond in a goat's ***

I know in the 21K miles I have on my bike I've riden the hell out of it and the belt has never given me a single bit of trouble. I'm talking jack rabbit starts, stoplight to stoplight drags, WOT runs in the twisties, a bit of drifting, rolling burnouts after dumping the clutch. And I've got no frayed edges, no missing teeth, no cracks, it still looks near new. I'll continue to run a belt until I have reliability issues that may come when I do some real engine work, but until then I'll enjoy my very clean and maintenance free belt.
