Default Inner Cam Bearing Replacement

I have a 2000 FXDWG that I'm replacing cams, tensioner shoes and inner cam bearings on. Shoes and cams are done, but I need to replace the bearings. Autozone used to have a blind hole bearing puller on their Loan-A-Tool program but dont seem to have it anymore.

Other than buying a tool that I'll likely never use again, what are my options? Cheapest NEW tool (installer/puller) I've seen is $78 on eBay.

Any other less expensive options? I was initially going to use the attachment on the blind hole puller from autozone, along with a washer and nut to create the puller (didnt really want to use the slide hammer portion) and use an old cam for installation.

Crack your case or break the bearing in the case and the needles fall into your crank case 78 bucks will seem like a bargain. Look around here in the for sal section for someone selling a used one or possibly renting one or buy it then resell it to recoup some of your cash. I'd let you borrow mine but my set is for the newer twin cams. Just my opinion.

I had the same dilemma. I bought a new one as no used were available when I needed it. Then sold it here. It went fast in a couple of days. Don't remember the exact numbers but I ended up $25 or $30 out of pocket plus some time. Like SB says, it is not worth trying to rig something.

I figured I may change cams in the future, and I'm saving quite a bit on shop costs by doing it myself... I can afford to buy the right tool(s) for the job. One to pull the bearing, another to install the new bearing.
