Oil change issue

Oil change issue
I dropped the engine oil today.......changed the filter and put the drain plug back in and began to refill and after 1.25 quarts it starts pouring out of the filler tube...............so I pulled the oil drain plug to drain the overfill out and to my surprise when I got the drain plug out nothing came out but a couple of drips. I’m really stumped....... I’ve been changing my oil since the first time it needed it.....56,000 miles later this happened....... any of you ever come across this and know what to do? Thanks in advance

You removed the wrong drain plug. You removed the engine case drain plug which opens to the sump. There's usually only a few ounces of oil there. It does not drain any oil from the oil bag.
So, when you replaced the plug and added oil to the bag you overfilled the bag when adding 1.25 quarts and it overflowed. When you removed the same plug, there was no oil left in the sump so you only got a couple of drips.
The plug you removed is a tapered plug that is not meant to be removed. Be very careful when you replace it that you don't over tighten it. You can crack the case. Use red loctite for it. The actual engine oil drain plug is further back on the bike.

Usually, when people do this, they do not notice until the transmission locks up in a few 1000 miles from no oil. Next time..Oil change first...Keg second.......Sounds like you got the transmission and engine dip stick also confused..

No, actually, I'm not. All I know for sure is mine carries all the oil in the crankcase casting. I understand there is a separate compartment, but I wouldn't call it a tank (and certainly not a bag!) In fact, the service manual refers to it as the "oil pan".
