Default what spped to shift into 6th gear.

Just got a 2013 FLD Switchback. My first bike with 6 gears. Bike has Vance Hines exhaust and air cleaner and a VH tuner. I shift into 6th gear about 60MPH. Is this too soon? Bike seems to have lots of power and accelerates fines but RPM seems low. 2400 or 2500. When do you guys shift. I want tot go easy on this bike and not abuse it, Thanks.

As long as you don't put the motor under a load, you should be fine at 60. I really don't concern myself with the MPH, I keep an eye on the tach and don't let it go below 2k in 6th.

My bike does not have a tach. I just go by the engine "vibe" I guess you could say. Usually I don't shift it into sixth until around 65 - 70. 70 feels good to me!

Same here no tach. 6th gear is for Interstate 60+ mph.

No tach here either. 6th is top speed cruise only; no acceleration for me in 6th. I get up to speed in 5th and then shift; usually 60 on two-lanes and 70-75 on the interstate. If I'm on two-lane, I'll even downshift to pass.

I usually shift around 65 mph or so or around 2600 rpm or higher. Does well on my 2012 SB....

65mph is my usual shift into 6th. 60mph is def doable, but seems to lag quite a bit until it hits 65 haha
