Default 96 to 103 Kit for Dyna

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has taken their 96 in with stage 1 to buying Harleys stage 3 103 kit,the parts guy says it will make my superglide a beast and this can all be done for around 1700.00 cdn.If you have done this did it in fact make a huge difference and is it worth the money?

Thanks.

I'd like to know as well. Wouldn't mind a bit more power, if the price were not overly unreasonable.

Not worth it in my opinion. I have two 2012’s, one has the 96 and one has the 103. The 103 spins a bit quicker but my 96 feels like it’s got more low end grunt. Both are set up exactly the same, DK Customs a/c units, 2-1 pipes, one has Harley’s nightstick slip on, one has a bassanni slip on, both using power vision tunes w/auto tune sessions....

If I want more power from my 96, I would just put a set of cams maybe some head work...but that would be it. The bigger you go the hotter the engine will run. My 103 runs much hotter then my 96...food for thought.

Better yet get your jugs bored to 107". Then get some cams and tune for around that same 1700. It will run circles around that harley kit. With a good tune it shouldn't run any hotter than stock...probably be cooler...if you happen to find it running hot just go faster.

Thanks for the replys, after much consideration I think I will just go with the 204 cam and I already have a race tuner, the good one,and see what happens, service counter guys just trying to upsell is all,Ill do the cams in about a month and see how the bike responds,I've heard good things about the 204 including on how nice the exhaust will sound.

I would highly recommend you take a look at the Andrews 48H cams. I put these in my 2011 Dyna Street Bob and it was night and day from performance to sound. I could not have been happier. I only got rid of it because I traded it for a 2019 Street Glide. I received a call a week later from the Tech from the dealership who said the second he heard the bike and took it for a test ride he had to have it (and bought it from dealership). I can dig up an old sound clip since you mentioned sound if you PM me your phone number.

I have a 96" FatBob & last year I dem'd a 103",my impression was the 103" felt stronger, but the big thing for me was the 103" felt much more capable of pulling the stupid gearing on the Dyna & would accelerate much smoother from say 60mph in 6th,than the 96",the 103" just seemed to cope with the gearing better.
Just my 2 penneth & I have been wrong before.

Wife and I each have 2008 Dynas. Her's has SE mufflers & AC, S&S 551 E-Z starts, mine has RB Black Hole 2-1, SE 103 cast 10:1 pistons and S&S 583 E-Z starts. Both with stock heads and tuned with SEPST. I can't emphasise enough how happy we are with the E-Z start cams. Both bikes experienced some drag and kickback in 100 degree plus weather; especially after a gas stop. I've had comp releases in another bike; these are way easier on the entire starting system; no upsell to giant starters, magic batteries, heavy duty ring gears or gold plated cables. One friend uses them in his 124 inch with stock 88 inch starter.
