Default Good ideas for securing a dummy cap in fuel gauge hole?

The fuel cap I want to put in the fuel gauge hole is way smaller than the hole itself. Got any good ideas for doing this?

How much smaller? Pics?

Wrap it in electrical or duck/duct tape.
Use some type of rubber or plastic shim (like plumbing gasket sheet)
Use a removable adhesive like caulking.
Rubber bands or o-rings

You could always take the tank off, weld in a bung and do it right. Looks like the rest of your bike was done correctly, why stop now?

The stock fuel gauge is held in by friction...

Modifying the tank may be more "correct", but the $500+ bill seems unjustifiable for just a dummy cap. But that's just me.

Is the fuel gauge opening large enough to fit and bond in a fuel cap receptacle?

Here's how I did it. You need a regular vented screw in cap and an old inner tube. Cut the inner tube into strips and wrap them around the threads of the cap. Trial fit push in, just cut off the excess inner tube strip till it fits snugly.
