Default Air dams?

I've seen the air dams on the CVO models and other Dyna style bikes. Is this functional or purely cosmetic? Inquiring mind wants to know.

It's all ground effects baby... those air dams keep the nose of the bike pressed against the tarmack at those white knuckle speeds the bikes usually run at. You wouldn't want any air under the bike lifting the front end at those LSR speeds.

Just kidding. It'spure cosmo.

The standard Harley has all the aerodynamicsleekness of a 1957 John Deere. Addingthat little air dam has the same function and effectiveness as those little matching bikini fairings they put on some of those bikes. It's another cool accessory to "color match" to the bike.

Thanks. I hadn't actually considered the aerodynamics part of the equation but was thinking more along the practical lines of splitting the water thrown off the front wheel to keep it off the lower legs and feet. Maybe not.
Thanks again.

Things that are functional (or not) :

I didn't have enough to clean, so that's why I have it.
