I ask for help / advice. Street Bob FXDBI 2006.
Such a problem appeared, the primary began to work noisy. The noise was similar to the bad primary inner bearing, but I had already replaced it with Baker bearing and the OEM 39929-06 auto-tensioner (with a thin base) was replaced with the updated 39929-06B auto-tensioner (the one with a thicker base).
I removed primary cover, I saw that the chain was hitting inner primary case under the compensator. Therefore, the noise.
The problem is the tensioner and need change it to Hayden auto tensioner or any other? or is the chain too stretched? Or is there something else?
By the way, if you look at used primary inner primary cases on ebay, then there they are also often found with these marks from the chain, and inner primary of more recent years of release have already changed the design of this place.
I just upgraded mine to baker attitude. Many people has done hayden with great success and it’s cheaper. I like the baker because you adjust it once and it stays the same way for a long time. I don’t trust auto adjuster just because of hd. Good luck
It looks like you still have the old style compensator, you might want to consider upgrading to the new style Screaming Eagle or Baker compensator.
That probably doesn't have anything to do with the chain hitting the inside of the primary but could be seriously contributing to the noises you're hearing.
Go with the Hayden...its pretty cheap and it works great. Just make sure you put the shoe on the right way...the wrong way could get ugly. I run one and it's been great for me after at least16k miles.
Stay with the stock 'old style' compensator. They have never been a problem. Mine has 104,000 on it. I replaced the chain and the tensioner shoe, and left the old comp in it.
I know this is an old thread but I’m hopeful you will respond.
I have an 07 Street Bob and discovered the same thing this evening when I removed my primary cover. First time I’ve opened it in 20 years.
Were you able to solve the issue? Was it the chain tensioner?
thanks
I’ve been considering
