Default 2017 Fat Bob Riser Spacer

Looking to do a 2” tank lift but with the drag bars there is no way without raising the bars.

No problem most people think this makes for a more comfortable ride anyway.

So I order some LA Chopper 2” riser spacers for 1.5” bars and some poly bushings. I like that these spacers recess the bars down into the spacer. Seems more robust.

Get home and put a caliper on the lower flare of the stock risers and it’s 1.6” WTF! There is no 1.6” option for anything bar related.

Anyone tried the LA choppers spacers with the fat bob stock riser? Is there enough allowance for 1.6”?

If the stock risers don’t fit the recess I can machine away the recessed portion and have them just fit flush. Or I can fire up the lathe and make a custom size recessed spacer.

any help is appreciated

Looks like I might need the 1.75” diameter spacer.

Also I’m reading and watching YT videos where people are installing these with the recess down.

their thinking is the recess is to cover the rubber bushing. This will defeat the purpose of the vibration isolation I would think.

Ok parts came in from Dennis Kirk (ordered a day later then the other parts from revzilla, the incorrect parts I ordered from rev won’t arrive until Tuesday)

if you have a 2017 Fat Bob here is the deal.

if you want the LA Chopper riser spacers that the bars/risers recess into you need p/n
LA-7413-73B.

They are for 1.75” bars. You are thinking the Fat Bob has 1.25” bars so these won’t work. The bar diameter only matters it you’re running a T-bar or similar.

On the Fat Bob the important parameter is the riser diameter. The riser diameter is 1.5”. So initially I ordered the spacers for 1.5” Bars. They still haven’t arrived but aren’t going to work.

The bottom of the risers flare out to 1.62”

I’ve seen YT videos of people installing these on the Fat Bob upside down with the recess down over the bushings. My assumption is they assumed they ordered the correct part based on riser diameter not accounting for the flare and this is the only way they fit.

on most risers that are just a cylinder the diameter is not critical larger or smaller will work but may not have a pleasing look. Since the LA Chopper risers have a recess the bar/riser sits in the diameter is very important.

I was concerned the 1.62” diameter base would be too small and look odd in the 1.75” recess but it looks perfect. The OD of these is 2” they look beefy and awesome.

also installed drag specialities poly bushings p/n 0602-0067. These reuse the factory hard parts and are cost effective. The bar is much more rigid than with the factory rubber bushings. Hopefully these will still dampen some vibration and be a good middle ground between metal bushings and factory rubber.

Used a 12pt 1/2-13 5” bolt from McMaster Carr p/n 91271A732. I think the 12pt head looks cleaner and it’s black

Cables. Only one that is even close to being tight is the clutch. I removed the plastic clamp at the bottom of the frame and adjusted the clamps on the downtube. I think it’s fine now and I still need to slightly change the angle down of the levers so that will give a bit more wiggle room.

I hope this helps those out these with the real Fat Bob (Dyna)

Now to get the DK 2” tank lift ordered

DK customs fat riser extensions work great also, found it to be a great value for a 50 dollar mod or whatever, tho ive moved on to a different bar/riser setup and like the bike alot better now.
Good on ya for the write up tho.

i did see the DK spacer. I was initially going to get that one along with the 2” tank lift. Once I found the LA Chopper spacer I changed tactic. Decided to verify the spacers will work for me then order the tank lift.

I did not have a comfort issue but needed the spacers to make some room for the tank lift. The spacers do seem to make my position better and I like the more solid feel of the Poly bushings.

need to order the tank lift, black fender support covers, hogworks LEDs the list never ends, lol

Haha yup. Or the list will finally be finished shortly before you trade it in for something different anyway.
