Electrical issues
Hey guys, I’ve got a 2017 Street Bob and I was riding the other day and it shut off out of nowhere. I tried bump starting it which did not work and had a friend jump it with his truck, it ran for a little bit but as soon as we disconnected it quit. The battery was replaced 3 months ago and now it struggles to even turn on the lights let alone start the bike. I put it on the battery tender and still the same. Did an ohms test and it checked out. What could be the problem?
I don't believe you can bump start FI bikes.
You could load test battery. But tonight you could put it on a charger, and see if it starts in the morning. If it doesn't probably battery. But why would it fail in 3 months? People will tell you they do that, but it is rare.
Could be charging system is not charging, which is why it died when taking off the donor vehicle. Charge battery, if it starts. Rev up should hit 14.4 DC at battery. You may need to check AC outpout from stator, which used to be about 20 votls per 1k RPM. Again rev it up, and see that it hits 100 volts AC.
Battery that has not been on charger for few hours should be around 12.7. I would think if it is over 12, it shoudl start though.

It is surprising how often that is it. Should be first thing to check, and its easy. Tiny turn is enough
Follow the ground from the battery to the stud on the trans, from there it goes to a ground distribution block. Check the cable all the way through. The ground cable on mine was broke inside the insulation on the section going from the ground stud to the distro block, took awhile to figure that one out.
Basic troubleshooting...
Have battery load tested, clean battery cable connection surfaces.
Once you have a fully charged battery in good working condition, perform a charging system check.

From the info you provided, the battery is dead and the bike won’t run unless it’s connected to another battery. That tells you that your bike is not producing sufficient voltage to charge the battery, or to supply the coil for spark or the ECU to operate properly. If it was just a bad battery, the bike would stay running when you disconnected from the jump pack. If you just put in a new battery, the bike will start and run until the battery drains and the voltage drops to where the ECU shuts down - right back to where you are now. You probably either have a bad voltage regulator, which is not uncommon, or a bad stator, which is less common.
1) charge your battery
2) have the dealer test the charging system
